“Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life”. Oscar Wilde

I first stumbled across the Tabloid Art History account in an article on Facebook. The article explaining how Tabloid Art History (which is no longer active) compared modern day tabloid photos to historical art works, and the resemblance is uncanny! Some of my favourites are their comparisons between the Met Gala fashion and art.

Even though Tabloid Art History is no longer active, I have found another account (which is still very much active) Art History Fashion which compares current fashion to past fashion, fashion campaigns, editorials, as well as works of art. The curation of this account is outstanding, and definitely worth checking out, if you have some time on your hands because once you start you won’t want to stop scrolling! Here are some examples from Art History Fashion:

I do wonder looking at these images how many took inspiration from, or copied, the original and how many are purely coincidental and only brought to our attention because of these entertaining accounts?

A further thought, being a creative person myself, is how would you feel if it was your art that was the inspiration/or being copied? Is imitation the greatest form of flattery?
